The Organizer

Winter 2005, Issue 11
A Quarterly Newsletter Helping to Keep You Organized

Welcome to The Organizer, a communique to helping you stay organized all year through. Each issue will bring you quarterly highlights and tips. It will also profile certain businesses that can add to and complete an organized balance in your life. I hope you find this information helpful. Any topics or stories you would like to share are welcome.

CAN WE TALK!?

In that famous phrase by Joan Rivers lies a wide-open range of interpretations, from "Let me tell you something" to "Are you listening?" One of the biggest time wasters is lack of communication. Not getting the details in writing and confirming what is expected of a person can cause mistakes, backtracking, and inadequate work performance. How many times have you had to redo a project because you didn't understand all the facts originally? What ways can you better communicate with associates, friends and family?

January has an opportunity to express your gratefulness with "Thank Your Customer" week (2-8). Whether you work for yourself or for someone else, the customer provides the money for your income. Let them know how much you appreciate them, either verbally or with a small gift.

February 6th is "Pay a Compliment" day. This is an excellent time to let co-workers and family members what great jobs they are doing. Be specific with your compliments, and be genuine. We all like to hear praise and adoration - think of how good you'll make someone feel by giving them some supportive words.

Communication tips:

  • Write down instructions for someone & then review it with them
  • Likewise, thoroughly review any instructions you're given
  • Leave detailed phone messages with specific questions
  • Again, return messages with complete details
  • Use a carbonless phone pad for taking messages
  • Communicate, collectively, with everyone involved in a project

Organized Thoughts

"Communication is depositing a part of yourself in another person."
